Hi Everyone! Well, the hurricane has slowed a bit which gave me a chance to stop into work and get on the computer (It's 10:00 am Friday). It's actually beautiful weather before a hurricane...calm before the storm. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers and offers of housing. I need to be at work during the storm as I am head of the "B" shift, the City of Oakland Park's emergency team which sits in the emergency operations center during and after a storm. My boss, the City Manager, is the "A" team (of course) and all the assistant department heads are the relief. Unless we get evacuated, that is where I need to be. I am staying at my boss' house in Oakland Park. I will ride out the storm at their house and then man the EOC after the first team needs a break. My house in Boynton Beach is all boarded up - and already looks like a war zone since I packed up all pictures, photographs, glass and other things into plastic bins and put other things in high places. Also was able to get sand bags from work to help keep out water. N**, his son R*** and best friend are planning to stay in the house as they have not evacuated my neighborhood. They do have places to go if they would need to move farther west. In all likelihood we will be without power and phones for several days so it will be normal to not hear from us. We are all trying to conserve gas (there's no gas at any gas stations right now) and cell phone batteries for the storm. Other than that, keep all of us in your prayers and I will be back in touch as soon as I can. Love you all! - K***
